Meet Leonato

Leonato arrived at HorseWorld in 2004 after being rescued from terrible neglect. He received all the care and treatment that he needed and made a full recovery. Once old enough, Leo was then successfully backed and became a fantastic childs ridden pony. He has been on a few loan homes, but sadly was always returned to us through no fault of his own.

Due to Leo having such a great temperament with children, he went on to become part of our Discovery team, working with vulnerable and disadvantaged children. He is a lovely pony with a bit of a cheeky character and worked wonders with the students. As Leo had worked for Disco for many happy years, it was showing in his behaviour that he wasn’t his typical happy self so was decided to retire him. He has had some time resting and we are now hopeful to find a loving forever home, where he can receive the care and attention he deserves for his golden years.

Leo has been ridden at a basic walk, trot and canter by a small adult, on and off the lead rein. We are looking for a companion home for Leo, where he can spend most of his time out in the field with an equine friend but could occasionally be ridden as a light hack by a small adult or supervised child. Leo has been hacked out and is very good with all traffic and farm machinery.

Leo is easy to handle, groom and is good to catch. He can live in a mixed herd but can be a little dominant when hay is first put out. Leo does suffer from skin allergies from spring to autumn so must wear a fly rug and mask, requires daily attention to his skin, and will likely need an electrified fence to prevent him from rubbing. Leo also has breathing issues meaning he must have soaked hay or haylage and must be kept on dust-free bedding if stable, such as shavings.

Leo is a lovely boy who deserves to find a loving, forever home. Leo has a maximum weight limit of 7 ½ stone. We would also consider a loving companion home for Leo.
